Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Measuring 8 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches tall (8 inches counting the brackets), this is a very nice condition steel construction white and black painted motorcycle license plate. This type would be installed on the top of the rear fender of military motorcycles during the Third Reich period. It is marked with identification number WL-315 234 where "WL" stands for "Wehrmacht Luftwaffe", so this is a Luftwaffe Air Force issue license plate. The 6 digit registration number indicates WWII issue, while a 5 digit number would indicate pre-war. This example even has two red Luftwaffe depot stamps on the front, which we almost never see!
The license plate shows decay from age and service, as well as long storage, probably in a barn or attic somewhere. The plate is slightly bent, and there is definitely some flaking of the paint, as the black base layer looks to be baked on enamel, which often does not take paint well. The number is still fully legible, an the top and bottom brackets are fully intact.
A fantastic totally authentic ultra rare example, ready to display!
